What is Teeth Whitening?

Our professional Teeth bleaching is a safe procedure that can be recommended by your oral health professional to improve the aesthetics of your smile. After a detailed clinical evaluation, the most suitable treatment for your case will be recommended.

Treatment Time

90-120 Minutes.

Dental Concerns

  • Pigmented teeth by food, drinks, or smoking habits
  • Teeh discoloration resulting from aging

What to Expect

  • During the consultation at GBT Clinic by Hugo Madeira, the oral health professional will assess your oral health and discuss your goals and expectations to determine the appropriate treatment plan for your case.
  • The initial color of your teeth will be recorded to track the progress of the treatment.
  • After the procedure, all necessary instructions will be provided.

In-Office Whitening

  • During the procedure, protectors will be applied to your gums to increase your comfort.
  • A whitening gel will be applied and activated by a light. Every 15 minutes, the whitening gel will be replaced.

At-Home Whitening

  • For at-home whitening, teeth imppressions will be made and personalized trays will be crafted in our laboratory.
  • A whitening gel will be provided to apply in the trays in order to whiten your teeth.

Aftercare

  • In the first 4 hours, avoid consuming foods and drinks with staining potential, such as coffee, tea, tobacco, spices, sodas, red and rosé wine, berries, carrots, and dark leafy vegetables.
  • To minimize dental sensitivity, avoid foods and drinks with high acid content, such as sodas, vinegar, pineapple, oranges, lemons, and their derivatives.
  • Also, avoid consuming very hot or very cold beverages.
  • Do not smoke 1 hour before and 1 hour after whitening.
  • The appearance of slight dental sensitivity during whitening should be considered normal and is reversible. It is advisable to use the desensitizing toothpaste included in the Whitening Kit.
  • In case of sensitivity, you can reduce the application time and/or avoid consecutive day/night treatments, spacing out the days if necessary. The effect is cumulative, and you can resume if a break is needed.
  • To minimize temporary discomfort in the gums, lips, or throat, remove excess product with a compress after placing the tray in the oral cavity. If the gums turn white, contact your dentist.
  • The duration of the whitening depends on the initial color of the teeth, the desired final color, and the teeth’s response to whitening.
  • Important: The whitening effect is not permanent, lasting typically 2-3 years, depending on diet, oral hygiene and smoking habits. Therefore, maintain regular visits to your Oral Hygienist/Dentist to uphold proper oral hygiene and assess the need for maintenance or reinforcement of the whitening treatment.
